Year 3 is an important year as the children progress from KS1 into KS2. We will be focussing on increasing their independence and confidence and the children will be taking greater responsibility for their own learning.  In Year Three we follow the National Curriculum which makes sure the children learn and develop skills appropriate for their year group. We ensure that we have relevant cross-curricular links with other subjects to delve deeper into each topic. We will be working hard to develop our existing skills as well as learning lots of new and exciting things!

What kind of assessment is there in Year 3

Children are assessed against the end of year expectations for Year 3 and information for each can be found in KLIPs

How can I help my child in Year 3?

Reading – The children are expected to read regularly throughout the week, with parental completion of the reading record. This should indicate when and how much the children have read. It would also be helpful to include a very brief comment on any problems or successes from the activity.

Times tables – Children should already know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables from KS1. This year we will focus on our 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Children use Times Tables Rock Stars and Hit the Button to practice their multiplication and division skills.

Spellings – Each Monday, children will be given spellings based around the expectations of their year group. They will have a suitable number based upon their ability level. The test will be on the following Monday.

Handwriting – In Year 3 the curriculum expects all children to be joining their handwriting.
