Year 4 – Hogwarts

Welcome to Hogwarts Class!

Mr Brown

Mrs Hayes - TA

Year 4 marks the second year of your child’s journey through Key Stage 2. It is an exciting year that includes new activities in music and PE.

During this year, the children will build upon the knowledge that they have gained in Year 3 and begin to tackle more challenging content.

With a positive mindset and a brilliant attitude, the children will grow and flourish.

What kind of assessment is there in Year 4?

In Year 4, the children will be assessed in different ways. Firstly, the work in their books will inform the progress they are making whilst towards the end of each term, more formal assessments in reading, mathematics and spelling will take place.

Throughout the learning process, the teacher will use their knowledge to identify the next steps and the areas that they can improve in.

Additionally, the children will be assessed in the summer term on the knowledge of times tables and division facts up to 12 x 12. This is a statutory government assessment that is completed online in school.

Please find a comprehensive list of the end of year expectations for reading, writing and maths here:

How can I help my child in Hogwarts?

In order to support your child in their learning, we encourage some the children to read for a short time at home each evening. They will be provided with an appropriate school reading book and reading record to record what they have read.

Also, they will be given one short homework task each week linked to work that they have completed in class. They will also receive up to 10 spellings each week to learn at home in readiness for a short test. Both these things will usually be given on a Friday.

We also would encourage the child to log on at home to Bug Club and Times Table Rockstars to practise reading and their times tables.
