Year 5 – Treasure Island

Welcome to Treasure Island Class!

Mrs Thornhill

Mrs Bevan - TA

In Treasure Island class we aim to develop skills of independence and resilience. We promote a positive attitude to learning and to our school rules of Ready, Respectful, Safe.

What kind of assessment is there in Treasure Island?

Writing is continually assessed throughout the year with a judgement being made as to whether the children have made the expected standard at the end of the year. Maths, Reading and Grammar are tested at the end of each term.

Statutory spellings for year 5 children are tested three times a year.

How can I help my child in Treasure Island?

  • Please encourage your child to read independently for ten minutes each night and listen to them read at least three times a week. Although by Year 5 many children may be fluent readers, in order to continue their reading development, it is important that parents share books with their child discussing new vocabulary and content in increasingly more challenging texts. It is important that children bring their reading book to school every day.
  • Support your child in learning their times tables up to 12 x 12 and the corresponding division facts.
  • Please encourage your child to practise and reinforce their learning using the online platforms below.

Spellings will be sent home each Monday and tested on the Friday. Weekly homework will be sent out every Friday to be returned by the following Thursday.
