At Manor Beach Primary School, we strive to make Music an enjoyable learning experience for all. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Our intention is to inspire creativity, self-expression and an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music. We hope to foster a life-long love of music by exposing our children to diverse musical experiences and igniting a passion for music.

The reading of music, the understanding of the inter-related dimensions of music, composition and performance skills are an integral part of all children’s musical experiences in each year group. They develop confidence, communication, thinking and creative skills and can also improve their emotional well-being.

Emphasis is placed upon children’s own development as musicians and all children will have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument before leaving Manor Beach. Children in KS2 will be offered further peripatetic lessons in a variety of instruments. It is our vision that every child adopts an understanding and love of music which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Singing is an integral part of school life, not only within music lessons but within weekly singing assemblies and is used as a cross curricular tool to learn and share new knowledge and to celebrate and cement our cohesion as a school community. Children in Years 4- 6 are invited to join our school choir and children are given regular opportunities to showcase their musical learning at school and in the wider community.

At Manor Beach Primary School we use the Charanga Music scheme which has been re-designed to take into account the DfE’s Model Music Curriculum.
